ukcc UK Coaching Certificate

The UK Coaching Certificate is an initiative to endorse coach education programmes, across sports within the UK, against agreed criteria.

We are now well into the UKCC with several courses completed in Scotland. Courses are now available in England and Wales.

Vaulting is included in the generic Level 1 qualification, together with the British Horse Society, the Association of British Riding Schools, the Pony Club and the Scottish Equestrian Association.  We shall offer the UKCC Generic Equestrian qualification at Level 1,tailored to vaulting, then come in with a Vaulting specific qualification at Level 2, 3 and 4.

The difference between this qualification and any which have gone before is that the emphasis is equally on the HOW TO COACH skills and the way to make coaching more rider-centred, as well as the WHAT TO COACH.  We hope in this way to raise the general standard of equestrian coaching in the UK.  This does not infer that the majority of our coaches do not work in this way at present, as our vaulting coaching levels have been following the UKCC principles, but it will enable our coaches, particularly the less experienced, to raise their game.

LEVELS FOR THE UKCC (Vaulting)

Level 1 is Assistant to the Coach.  Holders of this are only able to work under direct supervision to take part of a lesson.  They are not qualified or accredited to do more than this, and will not be insured for more. Technical knowledge will be allied to Pre-novice exercises.

Level 2 is the general Club coach who can work unsupervised.  The technical vaulting knowledge required is around Novice competitive Level and this coach will be able to plan a short series of linked lessons.

Level 3 is the slightly more knowledgeable coach who would be able to run a Club and plan a longer training strategy if required. The technical knowledge will encompass Advanced compulsories and freestyle. They should have the knowledge to train and improve the vaulting horse.

This coach could also mentor Level 1 & 2 coaches who needed support.

Level 4 is still in development, so watch this space!
