Build up exercise

Sitting holding on

Method

  • Vaulter sits close to the roller, legs long and wrapped around the horse. Toes pointed.
  •  Body should be upright, back straight with shoulders back.
  • Head should be looking forward with head raised slightly.
  • Shoulders, hips and feet should form a vertical line.

                                            Correct sitting position

What to look for

  • Legs should remain long and not rise up at the knee. Toes must be pointed.
  • Hips should be allowed to move with the horse to allow the bottom to remain in contact with the horse at all times.
  • The vaulter should not tip forward at the hips.

Tips

  • If vaulter leans forward and is not sitting on their bottom ask them to lean back slightly.
  • If gripping with their knees ask them to relax their legs and let them drop down.
  • Flexibility through hips and box splits will help.
