'Have a go days'
At the LTAD ( Long Term Athlete Development) day Stoneleigh, Monday 14 th June 2004, Vaulting was voted the best way to introduce young people to the horse, whilst teaching them basic skills of balance, flexibility, co-ordination, rhythym, poise, teamwork and how to fall. - The FUNdamental stage.
Get ahead of the Game.
Ann Hunt will be running one day training courses at Easterton Farm 2 miles from Gleneagles for any Riding Centres interested in offering vaulting within their schools. This could be particularly attractive for Pony Club Centres. It is a wonderful way to attract young children into the equestrian world.
One horse can be used for 8-10 children.
For those instructors with some experience of lunge work the coaching path is not too difficult. Help can also be given with training a horse.
The pattern of the day takes the following shape:
Morning: Starting about 10.30
Adults: some theory regarding safety, insurance, equipment, choosing & training the vaulting horse, differences in lunge work for vaulting to BHS traditions, basic moves.
Children: watch vaulting videos for new groups. General exercises and first introduction to work with the vaulting horse. Four trained horses are available.
Break for packed lunch 1 - 2pm
Afternoon: 2 - 4.30 pm
Adults : work with trained horses on the lunge, warm-up advice, use of barrel.
Children: warm up, barrel work and opportunity to try out simple exercises on the trained horse.
Equipment and literature can be provided to help get a new group off the ground. Follow up days can continue the good work started until the Group is confident to go it alone with mentor help.
Barrel horse available for purchase.
