Chairpersons report

Fantastic results for British Vaulting at the World Equestrian Games. The second most successful discipline after Eventing! Congratulations to the whole squad that travelled to Aachen.

I arrived on the Friday evening in time to see some of the Individual females compete in their first round Kur. After a stunning performance that earned her over 9.00 from the German judge, Joey Eccles came up about 12 places. She proceeded to the second round where she again improved her placing to finish in 11th place, our highest ever at a WEG. Well Done! All the other Individuals performed very commendably and were a credit to GB. The team pulled out all the stops with a new freestyle set to music from Robbie Williams. They finished in 5th position, beating the reigning European Champions on the way!. Superb result. All the hard work has paid off and the standing of vaulting in the eyes of the World, Europe and the BEF, much enhanced.

The competitive year has come to a close with the British Championships at Ingliston House Stud. Many thanks to the great team of helpers, and in particular Jo McLaren for all her efforts to make this a competition a weekend to remember. As well as British Championships trophies there were prizes for Scottish Champions and Commonwealth Champions.

I hope you all enjoyed the Gala event that was organised for the evening. It grew from a small idea that Helen Rogerson and I talked about some time ago into the great evening that took place. I believe we raised about  £1900 for Spinal Research and the ILPH.

The demos by the Eccles sisters and Ross took vaulting in GB to a new level of entertainment. Ross’s ‘full Monty’ is the talk of the Town. I believe we have put the word FUN back into the equestrian events Calendar.  I thank the Scottish Equestrian Association ( SEA) for their assistance in running the evening. A wonderful platform to show our talents. It was also great to see representatives from every discipline getting together. What a fantastic audience.

This year has seen a good increase in Membership numbers and a revival of new Groups. Keep up the good work all those who are helping to grow the sport.

We look forward to a great coaching conference in January. Make sure that you attend to keep abreast of coaching and your own personal development.                            Ann
