Job specification for Organizer on the
Day or Show Director
The success of the day hinges on the Organizer. Much of
the work is done in advance. If the preparation has been meticulous the day
should run smoothly but the Organizer needs to ensure that everything and everyone is in place and
knows their job.
Skills:
Organization, communication, planning, awareness, diplomatic, drive,
patience.
Equipment: Must
ensure that all necessary equipment has been assigned to someone to bring. Have a copy of the BEV Rules
- Liaise
with owners of establishment.
- Ensure
competition arena is set up well in advance.
- Risk
assessment of area and ensure safe warm–up areas.
- Check
quiet area for declarations and scorers.
- Post
notice board with time and place for declaration, Programme, judges
times,
doctor,
vet, farrier details etc. Any other useful information.
- Ensure
that score-sheets are ready and in order.
- Ensure
Judges tables are all laid out. Paper, pens, calculator, water,
score-sheets for at least the first class, timer for Judge A, BEV Rules
- Ensure music centre is set up and operational.
- Give
programme to announcer, music person, steward, scorers.
- Welcome
judges and make sure writers meet up with them.
- Make
sure competition starts on time.
- Make
sure announcer, steward and music person knows when the competition
should start.
- Have
personnel standing by to give coffee to judges at appropriate time.
- Ensure
that score collecting teams are standing by.
- Keep
checking through the day with the scorers that they are receiving the
scores regularly.
- Ensure
that results sheets are posted ASAP
- Keep
checking that all personnel are happy.
- Ensure
prize giving takes place as soon as possible after the last class
- Be
alert for any problems that might arise and try to solve them sooner rather than later.
- Keep
your head when all about are losing theirs!
