Volunteer
newsletter 1 Dec 06
The BEF Volunteer Liaison Committee meets regularly at Stoneleigh to discuss the very important issues relating to volunteering in the Equestrian world. All member bodies are represented, including BEV.
Although we are one of the smaller disciplines, it is of particular interest to us because of course, virtually 100% of our organisation is run by volunteers!
We are currently working on producing a “best-practice” document using experiences from other voluntary organisations and other disciplines within the BEF. It is evident that all groups face very similar challenges, large or small, and equally, it is recognised by all, that maintenance and future growth is very dependant on the encouragement of good management of all participant volunteers from coaches to tea/coffee helpers, young and not so young!!
The BEF has recently produced a document entitled:
Volunteers, Legal
Issues and Best Practice
This has some very useful pointers and is aimed at Volunteer managers (ie Coaches/group leaders) please email Gill Barham if you would like a copy of this.
Volunteer Management –
Test Event – Feb 22nd
It has been highlighted by all groups that
the disciplines require support and information and that a series of workshops
around the country could be beneficial. In order to ascertain the success of
these proposed workshops a test event has been organised for Thursday 22nd
Feb 2007 at
THIS TEST EVENT IS FREE (including
lunch!)
Timetable will be available shortly. You will be able to choose which workshops you would like to attend.
If you are interested in attending we have a limited allocation of places so please email Gill Barham asap.
Ultimately the BEF Volunteer Liaison Committee would aim to provide information for volunteers themselves aswell, as recruitment and retention of willing and capable hands is essential. Naturally, communication is the key here.
