Volunteer news 3 02/05/2007
Do you find that sometimes, when you volunteer for a role, life gets in the way and it gets tricky to juggle everything?
Do you feel a bit guilty that you running behind with a job or that you have had to change arrangements and can’t help out after all?
As a parent, do you feel sometimes that you are in the way, would like to get involved but don’t have the horsey skills that others have?
Well, having just returned form the competition run by Overton Vaulting Group at the weekend, it is clear that despite all the frustrations and last minute crisis associated with running such an event, Sabine Jamieson pulled together a very capable and enthusiastic band of parents, relatives and friends to help make the day a big success. Supported by BEV’s most senior vaulters and some help via the BEV website and some more experienced hands, guys with IT experience coped with the scoring system admirably; Mums, Dads and grannies baked cakes, made items for the table top sale, organised presents for the judges and helpers, sold raffle tickets and some looked after the smaller children. The dad who ran the music and announcements gets my vote for his heroics, and those unable to help out this time made the day a success by making every vaulter feel special by applauding their routines.
Everything got done....
Vaulters and horses behaved beautifully........
No doubt, some lessons were learned....
The vaulters had a ball..............
And I am sure that everyone involved had a sense of satisfaction that their contribution to the day, however large or small was much appreciated and well worth the effort.
This is why we volunteer isn’t it?
